Phono Preamplifiers

Phono preamplifiers are needed to amplify the extremely low-voltage output by a phono cartridge (thousandths of a volt) up to the levels needed to feed preamps and amplifiers. They are also required to align the frequency response of the signal direct from the cartridge to neutral (all records are carved with a large decrease in bass frequencies so that the stylus can track the grooves without literally jumping out). Different cartridge types/choices require differing preamplification capabilities.
